In a process called "throwing", coming from the Old English word "thrown" which means to twist or turn a ball of clay, is placed in the center of a turntable, called the wheel-head. During the process of throwing, the wheel rotates while the solid ball of soft clay is pressed, squeezed and pulled gently upwards and outwards into a hollow shape.
You will watch the instructor demonstrate pot making on the wheel. Starting with the basics, such as the operation of the wheel and handling the clay, she will help you make your own pot, taking you through the steps of shaping the pot, trimming, and glazing. As time permits, you will make more pots and add embellishments using hand building techniques. Great fun!
