Watercolor painting has been recorded since Egyptian times, and was widely used in the European Middle Ages for illustrating illuminated manuscripts. It gained popularity during the Renaissance for coloring tinted ink drawings and engravings. Watercolor became popular with landscape and botanical painters in the 1700’s, and grew in popularity and use since with the creation of watercolor societies in the 1800’s.
Through personalized art instruction, our beginner watercolor painting lessons teach you a wide variety of techniques, including: paintbrush usage, color mixing, color application, how to choose subject matter, how to find your unique painting style, and more!

Supplies:
140LB Cold Press Watercolor paper, can be loose, pad or block.
Watercolor Brushes, Round #10, 8, 6, 2, Flat 1/2", 3/4", 1" and a Rigger brush can be either 12" or 1". You don't have to have all of these for example if you have a #8 round and a 3/4": flat and a rigger you will do fine.
Paints - If you have not painted watercolor before start out cheap and buy only the basic Red, Blue and Yellow. Or buy a basic color set Winsor Newton or other inexpensive set. After you are sure you want to paint with watercolor medium, then you can build your supply kit with more and better products.
Container for watercolor.
Pallet - You can use a plastic or paper plate, or buy a regular watercolor pallet.
To get your image on the paper I use graphite paper grey or black.
Ball point pen and pencils or lead mechanical pencil.
Foam core board, I use 1/4" x 15" x 20".
This is used to tape your paper for painting. Exception is if you are using block.
Blue painters tape, used to tape you paper to the foam core board.
Special Effects:
Mastic
Plastic wrap
Screening (window type)
Salt
Pallet Knife
Sponges (natural)
There may be other supplies needed as the class progresses and I will let you know a class before we need it.
